MrBeast and Mark Rober Raise Over $10 Million in 5 Days

Source: Dominican News / The Publish Press

Last Friday, MrBeast and Mark Rober launched #TeamSeas, an initiative aimed at raising $30 million by the end of this year to remove 30 million pounds of trash from the world’s beaches, rivers, and oceans. To help spread the word, they enlisted thousands of Youtube creators from over 140 countries to post promotional videos and donate.

Five days in, #TeamSeas has raised $10,652,850, reaching more than one-third of their total goal. The highest donation yet is just over $1.2 million from Shopify CEO Tobi LĂĽtke. Other donors include Youtube with $400 thousand, Royal Caribbean, and a generous amount of creators such as Milad Mirg, MrBallen, and Aphmau.

By The Numbers

9.3k → Creators have made videos about #TeamSeas.

60% → More donations within the first 48 hours than the previous #TeamTress fundraiser.

85 → Football fields worth of trash that will be removed if #TeamSeas reaches their goal.

All donations and merch sales will go directly to two non-profit organizations, Ocean Conservancy and The Ocean Cleanup. You can donate at TeamSeas.org, through any YouTube video that’s tagged for the campaign, and on TikTok through a quick-donate sticker.

Our Take

When creators mobilize their audience, the combined effort creates a powerful force. If in just five days, a creator-lead charity can get this much traction—through 9,000 creators, network TV, and some of the world’s biggest companies—it shows that when creators come together they can make a social impact with lasting change.

Jaclyn Hill Launches Independent Jewelry Line

Source: Tubefilter

DTC is the new brand collab. Last week beauty vlogger Jaclyn Hill announced a jewelry line, Jaclyn Roxanne—her first product launch without outside partners or investors.

That means Hill had a hand in every part of the production process—from selecting a manufacturer and designer to distribution and marketing roll-out.

In contrast to her brand collaborations with Morphe, where there are set resources to work with—like designers, artists, producers, etc.—launching a product without any outside help cost her more time and resources, but also allowed her to keep more profit and ownership.

The line of necklaces and earrings will be sold through her online marketplace Iminit, which is set to go live on Thursday.

Our Take

Jaclyn’s DTC line provides a practical blueprint for creators looking to fully own their creative output. While there is more risk out the gate (investing in warehouse space, distribution logistics, etc.) the outcome is more brand loyalty and control. We predict the next big DTC brand will be creator-lead.

Dhar Mann Studios Tops the App Store

Source: Dhar Mann

Inspirational Facebook and Youtube creator Dhar Mann, with a combined social following of over 70 million, launched the Dhar Mann Studios app earlier this month. It’s amassed more than 4,000 positive reviews, and was #1 on the free app chart its first week, above Youtube and Facebook.

The app allows users to watch Mann’s videos ad-free, including popular sketches on moral lessons such as Student Cheats on Final Exam, Instantly Regrets It and Rich Kid Make Fun of Poor Kid’s Halloween Costume. Users can also sign up for daily inspirational messages, access exclusive giveaways, and shop new merch drops.

Our Take

Launching an app comes with high overhead costs like back-end development and UX design. It also tests a brand’s ability to monetize beyond social platforms like Youtube and Instagram. With a following like Mann’s, apps can highlight the strength of a community and lessen a creator’s reliance on other platforms.

We’re hosting a small gathering for the New York City creator community on Thursday evening. Interested in joining us? Fill out this form for more information.
