Inside Steven Bartlett’s New Podcasting Tool

Steven Bartlett (right) and former MrBeast programmer Rox Codes (left) launch podcasting platform Flightcast /Β Flightcast

The Diary of a CEOΒ creator Steven Bartlett recently teamed up with software engineer Rox Codes to launch Flightcast, a podcast management platform.

The why: β€œThe demand for high-quality video podcast content is skyrocketing, but the process for creators has been unnecessarily complex and time-consuming,” Bartlett said in a press release.

We spoke with Rox, who spent the last year leading a team of engineers on the project, about Flightcast’s impact on creators β†’

How Flightcast works: Creators upload their podcast and Flightcast will simultaneously upload video and audio across any social platform. Flightcast then…

  • Aggregates data across platformsβ€”from monetization to retentionβ€”and allows creators to β€œchat” with the data through an AI assistant.

  • Creates AI transcripts, title suggestions, descriptions, and chapters.

  • Auto-posts clips based on high-performing segments of the podcast.

Flightcast is available at three tiers starting at $50 per month. Rox said its target demo is β€œintermediate plus” creators with a large catalog of videos for the platform to pull from.

Zoom out: Bartlett has backed multiple brands in the last year, like link-in-bio tool Stan and PerfectTed matcha.Β

With Flightcast, Bartlett and Rox are providing creators with the tools that helped The Diary of a CEO gain 12 million subscribers in the last four years.

β€œI want to teach the biggest podcasts three things they didn't know about their own podcast,” Rox told us. β€œI want to be the reason a thumbnail got changed and got an extra million views. I really want to push the boundary of what's possible at a tech level in podcasting.”

MKBHD’s Editing Process, Exposed

Marques Brownlee and his team reveal the editing philosophy behind their videos /Β The Studio

What does it take to edit for one of the top tech creators on YouTube? Marques Brownlee, along with his post-production team The Studio, recently shared the principles behind a successful MKBHD video β†’

1. Good in, good out: β€œYou just can’t edit your way around poor planning and execution,” Brownlee said. Three ways to know if a video is planned well: the story should be visual, engaging, and easy to explain quickly.

2. Focus on value prop: Whether you find yourself with too much footage or not enough, lead editor Mariah Zenk emphasizes the importance of knowing the value prop that the video will bring to your audience. β€œWhat you cut is as important as what you keep,” Brownlee said.Β

3. Don’t be boring, but don’t be insulting: Head of motion design Michael Emerick values simplicity in his animations and overlays. With an emphasis on life-like motion and timing, Emerick makes sure that any additions to the video are elevating the overall message. β€œI think it’s really easy to get distracted and excited about flashy plugins,” Emerick said.
